Cofounders Paige Guizzardi and Eve Painter opened the store in Richmond, Va., at The Avenues on Libbie and Grove in the fall of 2003. Inspired by a beloved pet and a rescue dog, the duo set out to inspire and enhance the lives of pets and the people who love them. For the love of pete! was named for a stray dog Painter rescued off the side of the road. She fostered Pete until a loving family in Chesterfield County could provide him a forever home. A percentage of the stores proceeds benefits area rescue shelters. Inspiration for Guizzardi came from her loving newfoundland Daisy. Guizzardis six-year-old newfie Daisy was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2003. Feeling lost, she set out to educate herself on canine nutrition and care. Her efforts to provide the best for Daisy, brought her to a conclusion - she wanted to create a support system for pet owners faced with similar situations. Guizzardi finds comfort in providing clients with information on alternative medicine and holistic healing, as well as first-hand advice and an understanding ear. Guizzardis care regimen for Daisy included home cooking. As a result, she created an all natural recipe for dog food. The recipe is now produced and distributed by Amelia Springs, Inc. Amelia Springs canned food can be found in Richmond area pet and grocery stores. Guizzardi can be found at for the love of pete! seven days a week. Bringing a multitude of talents to the boutique, she has a flair for the artistic and maintains the boutiques vision of elegance with a touch of fun and funk. Guizzardi worked as a graphic designer for ten years. She pursues sculpting, felting, knitting and sewing in her spare time. Many items in the boutique are originals crafted by Guizzardi and other Richmond artists. Designer items from France, Italy, New York also line the shelves. Products run the gambit in style and fashion featuring collars, leashes, beds, blankets, apparel, toys, treats, pet carriers, bowls and grooming accessories. You may also spot an antique depicting your favorite canine.
